NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Monday said they have arrested a burglar for allegedly attacking a minor girl when she raised an alarm seeing the man entering her house in northeast Delhi’s Usmanpur area last Wednesday. The man had attacked the girl using a plier and had fled to UP from where he was arrested. The arrested man has been identified as Arpit Jain (22), a resident of Usmanpur. He works at a jeans manufacturing factory. A call was received at Usmanpur police station last Wednesday regarding the attack. “When the cops questioned the girl, she narrated that she was alone at home and about to leave for her tuition, when around 2 pm, she noticed an unknown person hiding near the door of the other room. When she raised the alarm, the man hit her with a plier and fled the spot. The girl alerted locals about the incident,” said a senior police officer. Deputy commissioner of police (Northeast) Sanjay Sain said they registered a case and during investigation, his teams thoroughly scanned CCTV footage from the cameras installed in the vicinity. The accused was spotted and identified as Arpit Jain, Sain said. “We found that Jain was hiding in Mainpuri, UP. A raid was then conducted and the accused apprehended. He confessed his crime and at his instance, blood-stained clothes worn by him at the time of the crime were recovered. He said he had entered the house for burglary, but when the girl raised the alarm, he hit her and escaped. He had arrived in Delhi about three months back,” the DCP said.
