NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Monday apprehended two persons in connection with the incident in which a student was stabbed to death in Delhi University’s South Campus.”Two persons, Rahul, a 1st year BA student, and Haroon, a school dropout and friend of Rahul, have been apprehended. The investigation is in progress. We have identified two more persons involved in this incident,” said Manoj C, DCP, southwest Delhi.A 19-year-old youth was stabbed to death allegedly by three men outside Aryabhatta College on South Campus on Sunday afternoon. The deceased student, Nikhil Chauhan, was a first-year BA student at the School of Open Learning (SOL), police said. However, his father claimed that he was a student at Aryabhatta College.Initial investigation by police revealed that Chauhan allegedly had a feud with another student over a girl. “We have been informed that the girl was in a relationship with Chauhan. Last week, the suspect misbehaved with the girl, which resulted in a fight,” said a senior police officer.The suspect, holding a grudge, returned on Sunday. The accused and two of his associates ambushed Chauhan outside the college gate at 12.15 pm and assaulted him. One of them brandished a knife and stabbed Chauhan in the chest, police said.As Chauhan fell, bleeding on the road, the suspects fled the scene. He was immediately rushed to Charak Palika Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival, police said. It appeared that the knife had pierced his heart, resulting in excessive bleeding, they said. The body was preserved for an autopsy, and an FIR was registered.Cops have questioned college authorities and the girl allegedly at the centre of the rivalry. They have also interviewed Chauhan’s friends and family for potential leads. Chauhan’s call records are being examined for any threat calls prior to the murder, police said.An eyewitness reported being at a nearby construction site when they heard a scream. “I learned that some people had stabbed the boy, and after sustaining injuries, he ran a few metres while crying for help. He fell down, and his three friends took him to the hospital on a scooter. Then police arrived at the scene,” the eyewitness said.Police searched the residences of the suspects, but they were found to be on the run. CCTV footage shows the accused on a bike and two scooters.Chauhan’s family has demanded strict action against the accused. Nikhil’s father, Sanjay, said, “Last week, my son had an argument with a boy. He had objected to a fight. He was just helping his friend.”Nikhil was also involved in modelling and appeared in music videos.Delhi University said in a statement: “It is very unfortunate and sad that a young life has been lost and that too just outside the college where students come to learn and make a career. We are really sad for the loss of a precious life.”
