NOIDA: A rape suspect managed to flee from police custody during his medical examination at the district hospital in Sector 30 on Monday. According to the police, a case of abduction and rape was registered against him at the Sector 113 police station in October. “An FIR was registered under sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her marriage) of the IPC. On Monday morning, the suspect – Kamlesh (19), a native of Mainpur was arrested from Sector 71. The girl was also found with him,” said Ashutosh Dwivedi, additional deputy commissioner of police, Noida. Later, the police took Kamlesh to the district hospital for a medical examination. “He was accompanied by our head constable Yashbir and a home guard. When Kamlesh went to the washroom of the hospital, he escaped from the window. As he did not return for a long time, the two realised that he had escaped. Senior officials were informed and a search operation was initiated,” the officer said. He added that after a medical examination of the girl (14), who was recovered, sections of rape (376) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act were added to the FIR. “The head constable who was in-charge of the suspect’s security has been suspended while an inquiry has been initiated against the home guard present at the spot at the time of the incident,” said Dwivedi. He added that three police teams are currently trying to nab the suspect.
