NEW DELHI: A UP-based Timberwood businessman was allegedly kidnapped and thrashed by a group of people posing as policemen. Three men – Amir Iqbal (52), Mohammad Ashraf (50), and Firoj (30) – have been arrested in the case so far, police said. The complainant, Mohammad Taha (45), was in Delhi on a business trip. He was made to strip by the gang, which includes two women. The accused made his videos and demanded Rs 20 lakh as ransom. Later, he was dropped at Shakarpur Chowk. A case was registered at Jyoti Nagar police station on Taha’s complaint on Friday. He claimed that he regularly comes to Delhi for business-related work. For about four months, he had been regularly getting phone calls from a woman, who wanted to meet him. “On one occasion, he met the same woman, who told him that she was a widow and mother of three children. She requested a job. She also introduced him to one of his female relatives,” police said. On October 28, the woman met him in Kardampuri and took him to an office in Laxmi Nagar where her relative was already present. “The moment he entered the office, both ladies started removing his clothes and when he resisted, they threatened to create a ruckus. Meanwhile, six to seven other people reached there. They introduced themselves as policemen and started shooting videos of them. They thrashed him and took all the cash in his possession,” the police said. One of the accused posed himself as a police inspector and demanded Rs 20 lakh at gunpoint in lieu of videos. He was forced to tell on camera that he had taken a loan of Rs 20 lakh from them and would return it in two installments. He was released after he assured them of returning the money.
