NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly extorting a hardware businessman and then asking him to register his property in her name or give her another crore. Police said the woman and the businessman had come into contact in 2020, but stopped talking after some time. The woman extorted Rs 10 lakh from him in the past couple of months. According to police, the businessman, who is married, met the accused at his shop. After he stopped talking to the accused, she threatened him saying that she was aware that his family didn’t know about their friendship. “She even told him that he would be implicated in a false rape case,” said a senior officer. Police received the extortion complaint on Friday. “The complainant stated that the woman, along with her associates, was trying to extort Rs 1 crore. The victim said he was in the business of hardware and got to know the woman in 2020. He said the woman and her associates had even forced him to sign a blank cheque to withdraw Rs 1 crore,” said the officer. A case was registered and on the basis of bank details and other relevant evidence, the woman was taken into custody. The cops said she was pursuing LLB. The role of her associates is under examination.
