NEW DELHI: The bodies of two puppies were allegedly found hanging from a tree in Dwarka Sector 9 on Wednesday. Police said they received a complaint from a resident, who was taking care of the puppies, alleging that they were killed in a brutal manner. A photo of the puppies hanging from a rope went viral on social media on Thursday.DCP (Dwarka) Harsha Vardhan said, “A complaint was received regarding killing of stray dogs in a secluded park in Sector 9. A case under IPC Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) has been registered at Dwarka South police station. Autopsy of the puppies was conducted. Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the accused person.”The woman complainant, Vanessa Alphonso (60), said, “The incident took place when the mother of the puppies was taken for sterilisation on Tuesday afternoon. I fed the dogs regularly. On Tuesday night when I went to feed the puppies, I couldn’t find three of them. Initially, I thought they were playing around, but on Wednesday also I couldn’t find them. Later, I found two of them dead, while one of them was alive despite hanging from a rope. I called the cops and sent it to a shelter home.”Locals said the puppies never harmed anyone and the way they were strangled was very brutal.“There has been a spate of horrific attacks against dogs in the recent past, most notably by a doctor in Lucknow who deliberately ran over two pups, students at an institute who beat a pregnant dog to death with hockey sticks, a nurse who drowned nine pups, a delinquent who stabbed a sleeping dog, and many more. It is shocking to see what a sadistic society we have become where a young pup could be so cruelly hanged to death. We need a zero tolerance policy against animal abuse,” said Ambika Shukla, trustee, People for Animals.
