GURUGRAM: A 42-year-old property dealer was shot dead allegedly by unidentified armed assailants around 2am on Sunday while he was sleeping at his under-construction property in the Palam Vihar area. His family members, who reached the spot, contacted the police. Later, they refused to handover the body for an autopsy, alleging that cops did not reach on time and helped the accused to escape. They kept the body at the site for nearly 12 hours, demanding an arrest first. Meanwhile, police collected CCTV footage of the incident and started an investigation. Police teams were also deployed in the area to maintain law and order. “Later, the commissioner of police, Kala Ramachandran, visited the crime scene and addressed the grievances of the family, after which the family handed over the body to the police,” said DCP (west) Deepak Saharan. According to the police, the deceased, Dharmesh Yadav, hailing from Dundahera, was sleeping in his Sector 22 under-construction house when two armed men came in a car and pumped bullets into him. Yadav died on the spot. The reason behind the murder is not yet ascertained. “The family members do not suspect anyone or know about any enmity,” said the DCP. The body has been sent for a postmortem. “We are investigating the matter and will make arrests soon. We have also procured CCTV footage of the incident, and the police teams and crime investigating agency have got some important leads,” said Saharan. The victim’s cousin , Upendra Yadav, said, “The CCTV footage shows the accused fired the shots at a point-blank range and fled the scene. This case seems to be planned murder and contract killing. However, there was no enmity with anyone.” Gajraj Yadav, an uncle of the victim, said that his nephew was sleeping, and one of the workers was also sleeping nearby when the incident occurred. The worker informed Gajraj about the crime. He alleged that he also reached a nearby police station, but cops told him they would send a police PCR soon. “They reached the crime scene after half an hour,” Gajraj alleged. However, Saharan said the police reached the crime spot immediately, and he also reached within 10 minutes.
