NOIDA: The Gautam Budh Nagar administration has issued an advisory against purchase or consumption of liquor from dubious places.“People should not buy liquor from unauthorised vendors as it may have methyl alcohol which is injurious to health. Consumption of such liquor can affect eyesight and also lead to death. We are conducting a drive against people who are involved in transporting and manufacturing illegal liquor,” said RB Singh, district excise officer. The district excise department has issued helpline numbers and sought information/feedback from public to report illegal liquor.According to the UP Excise Act, 2010, people involved in manufacturing and selling illicit liquor in the state may get life imprisonment or death term and be fined up to Rs 10 lakh.The department has also deployed teams at Delhi-Noida borders to check illegal transportation of liquor.R K Singh, district excise officer, Ghaziabad, said that the teams are conducting enforcement drives against illegal liquor in Ghaziabad. “We conducted a check at Dasna toll plaza on Sunday. We stopped a car and found 192 bottles of illicit liquor. The driver was identified as Sukkan Singh, a resident of Amroha. He was transporting the liquor from Haryana to Amroha,” he said. The man was booked under sections 60, 63 and 70 of the excise Act. Noida excise officials said they have received 12 applications for an occasional bar licence for New Year eve celebrations. The department on Tuesday conducted an inspection at ‘Pushtida Restaurant’ in Sector 122 and found that the restaurant was serving liquor to customers without a licence. “The team arrested three staffers and recovered some liquor bottles. A case has been registered against them under Excise Act at Sector 113 police station,” said officers Noida Excise department said in a press note.
