GURUGRAM: Three men suffocated to death after falling asleep with a coal brazier (angithi) burning in their rented room at Kasar village in Jhajjar’s Bahadurgarh, police said on Tuesday. The deceased — Munesh Kumar and Kallu Singh from Mundakhera in Uttrakhand and Saifizul Mehna from Birbhum in West Bengal — worked in a private company at Sector 16.The deaths were discovered after their contractor called to know about their whereabouts. When the trio did not respond to his calls, the contractors visited their rented house and found them dead. He informed the police immediately.Cops reached the spot with a forensics team. So far, the investigation suggests they had closed windows and the door of the room to avoid the cold blast and fell asleep with the brazier burning in the room to keep themselves warm. The three are between 28 and 31 years old. Sunil Kumar, SHO of Sector 6 police station, said, “We were informed on Tuesday morning that three labourers died due to suffocation. We reached the spot with the forensics team. Initial investigations don’t suggest any violence or foul play. They asphyxiated from the coal brazier’s smoke.” According to the police, the contractor called on the distress number once he reached the trio’s house and found them dead. “The victims used to work in a private company at Sector 16. We found the angithi near the bodies. The bodies have been sent for an autopsy. We have also informed family members of the victims. The FSL team has collected samples from the room,” the SHO said.
