NOIDA: A 29-year-old man riding a bike died after being hit by a Mercedes car near Sector 31 in the wee hours of Saturday. Police said they were looking for the driver of the luxury car, who fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind. Some 2-3 persons were believed to be inside the car when the accident happened. Originally from Aligarh, the deceased, Chitransh Yadav, was staying in Ghaziabad for some time and worked for a bike taxi service provider. He had just dropped off a passenger and was moving around Sector 31 looking for a ride in the early hours. Around 3am, the police said, the Mercedes coming from the Spice Mall side crashed into the bike at high speed. Chitransh was flung in the air and suffered grievous injuries. The Mercedes driver initially sped off, but abandoned the vehicle at a distance from the accident spot and disappeared with the others in the dark. “We received a call on our helpline number, where a passerby informed us that a biker had been hit by a car. A police team rushed to the spot and took the biker to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,” said Rajneesh Verma, assistant commissioner-2. The police have seized the car bearing a Haryana registration number and are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area and at nearby stretches. “We believe there were 2-3 persons inside the Mercedes at the time of the accident. We are conducting an investigation,” the ACP said. Based on a complaint by Chitransh’s parents, an FIR has been lodged against the unidentified Mercedes driver under IPC sections 304A (death due to negligence) and 279 (rash driving). “Teams have been formed to identify and nab the driver,” Verma added. Residents living in the vicinity of the Sector 31-25 intersection, meanwhile, alleged that few followed the traffic signals at night and there was no police patrolling either to rein in the violators. “I have been living in Noida for the past 12 years and have never seen motorists stopping at that intersection when the red light is on at night. The traffic police should take measures immediately to avoid another fatal accident in the future,” said Bharat Kumar, a resident of Sector 31. DCP (traffic) Ganesh Saha told TOI, “We will soon get in touch with the Noida Authority to carry out a survey of the intersection. After the survey, we will proceed for further action.” FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIAFacebookTwitterInstagramKOO APPYOUTUBE
