NEW DELHI: Two gunmen missed their target and instead shot two others in southeast Delhi’s Bhogal on Wednesday. Police said both the victims had sustained bullet injuries and were in hospital. No arrests have yet been made in the case. The two injured men were identified as Neeraj, 24, an autorickshaw driver, and Mohammad Gulzar, 18, a worker at a tent house. The police control room received a call at 1.40pm on Wednesday about a shooting in Bhogal market. A team from the local police station reached the spot, where 24-year-old Nikhil, a resident of Pant Nagar, told them that two youths had opened fire at him. However, they missed and injured two others, both of whom had to be admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The gunmen were on a motorbike and were not wearing helmets. Nikhil suspected the attack to be related to a murder case of April 2020, in which he had come out of jail on bail in November last year.Nikhil said he, Neeraj and another friend had come to a bank to deposit money but found the machine not working. “We went to a tea stall. While Neeraj was sitting there, the other victim was working outside the tent house. We had just ordered tea when the two men arrived and started shooting,” Nikhil claimed. The target added, “They fired three rounds. One hit Neeraj on the back while the second victim received a bullet injury on his back. The third bullet hit a shop.” The incident has been captured by a CCTV camera.Ramchandra Batra, owner of the tent house, said Gulzar had been working for him for four months and was to have travelled home to Bihar on Thursday. “Thankfully, no child was injured because usually at this time, this spot is crowded with parents picking up schoolchildren,” Batra said.An investigator said two suspects have been identified. Both are residents of southeast Delhi. A case has been registered under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
