Gurgaon: On the occasion of National Deworming Day, a total of 5.36 lakh children from the city were administered deworming tablets on Thursday. Children between the age group of 1 and 19 years were included in this drive. The event was organised by the health department from the Government Senior Secondary School.Very young children were administered syrup while older ones were given the albendazole tablets. All schools, both private and public, were directed by the health department to ensure that all students are given the medicine. The anganwadi and ASHA workers have been asked to visit the labour sites and colonies so children from the slum are also covered in the drive. However, in case some children miss the dose, they can have the same on February 17. Gurgaon’s chief medical officer Dr Virender Yadav said, “Once a child has been dewormed, it will help improve iron levels in their body and cure anemia too. It is advised that children eat a healthy meal before they are given the doses.”
