NEW DELHI: Delhi LG VK Saxena has removed AAP leader Jasmine Sah and AAP Rajya Sabha MP ND Gupta’s son Naveen Gupta from the board of power discoms in Delhi, sources in LG office said on Saturday. They have been replaced by senior officers, they added.”LG considered the matter of illegal appointment of four private people, namely, Jasmine Shah, Naveen D Gupta, Umesh Tyagi and JS Deswal as government nominees on behalf of Delhi Power Company Limited (DPCL) on the Board of Directors of discoms which was issued in gross violation of provisions of Rule,” reads an order by the power department. The AAP hit back and said, “LG’s orders removing Jasmine Shah and Naveen Gupta from the board of discoms is illegal and unconstitutional.””LG does not have the power to issue such orders. Only the elected government has powers to issue orders on the subject of electricity. LG has made a complete mockery of all SC orders and the Constitution. He is openly going around saying that SC orders are not binding on him,” said AAP in a statement. The finance secretary, power secretary and MD of Delhi Transco will now represent Delhi government on the board of the discoms, as was regular practice, sources said.Delhi LG had ordered for the immediate removal of Shah, Gupta and other private individuals, who had been allegedly illegally appointed as government nominees on the boards of – BYPL, BRPL and TPDDL discoms, they said. The LG had invoked the “difference of opinion” under Article 239AA of the Constitution of India, after the Kejriwal government persisted upon their continuance as government nominees, despite “proven misconduct and maleficent”, by allegedly benefiting the discoms to the tune of more than Rs 8000 crore, sources claimed.Saxena had referred the matter to the President of India for a decision. He had asked for the removal of the “political appointees” on the discom boards with immediate effect, they statedDelhi government owns 49 per cent of stake in the discoms.
