(Representative image)NEW DELHI: Police have arrested a housemaid and recovered from her jewellery articles worth over Rs 40 lakh which she had allegedly stolen from a house in CR Park where she worked. The woman has been identified as 24-year-old Archana. Items recovered from her include 10 gold rings with diamond and other precious stones, three silver rings, nine pairs of gold ear tops, one gold necklace, a gold chain, expensive wrist watches, cash Rs 2,000 and multiple handbags, police said. The theft was reported on Thursday. “The complainant alleged that multiple gold and diamond items worth Rs 40-50 lakh have been stolen from her house. On her statement, a case was registered and investigation taken up,” said deputy commissioner of police (south) Benita Mary Jaiker. During investigation, the house was thoroughly examined and footage from CCTV cameras in the area were scanned. “The statement of the housemaid was also recorded and it was found that neither any door nor window of the house was broken. There were no signs of any trespass. Hence, it seemed that somebody in the house was involved in this theft. The domestic maid was again interrogated and she kept changing her version,” the officer said. Jaiker said the maid, on sustained interrogation, broke down and confessed her involvement in the theft. “The stolen jewellery items, watches, and cash were recovered from the servant quarter at the CR Park’s house and her house in Noida,” the DCP said.
