NEW DELHI: Bodies of two children aged 13 and 8 years were recovered from the jungle behind Qutub Minar in Mehrauli on Tuesday morning. Three siblings were abducted for ransom from Santhalka village in Bhiwadi in Rajasthan and brought to Delhi on Saturday. The kidnappers strangled the kids the same day, but the youngest, aged 5 years, survived and was discovered at a shelter home. The Rajasthan Crime Branch nabbed the two perpetrators on the basis of the phone call made to the children’s uncle for a ransom demand of Rs 8 lakh. According to police, a case of kidnapping had been registered at Bhiwadi-III police station on October 15 by Gyaan Singh, who said his sons, Aman (13), Vipin (8) and Shiva (5), were missing. While the cops were investigating, the family received a ransom call, tracing which Rajasthan police picked up Mahaveer Teli and Manjah Kushwaha, the victims’ neighbours, as suspects in the kidnapping. The accused are natives of Bihar, said police. They confessed to the crime and revealed the location in Delhi of the boys they had killed. The Bhiwadi Crime Branch contacted Delhi Police and shared the pictures of the three boys. A team also reached Delhi late on Monday and the search operation began. By the early morning on Tuesday, two bodies had been recovered from the forest area. Surprisingly, the third child wasn’t found though his slippers were at the spot. Chandan Chowdhary, DCP (South), said, “During the Phool Walon ki Sair festival on October 16, police came across the boy who was unable to say anything about himself. He was, therefore, taken to a children’s home. When Rajasthan Police contacted us with details of the children, we realised that the boy rescued earlier and lodged at the home was Shiva.” The post-mortem of the murdered minors will be conducted on Wednesday and the bodies handed to families after that. Speaking to TOI, Gyaan Singh said that he was a cart vendor who sells cosmetic products with his wife. “My sons used to go to Mahaveer’s house to watch television,” the father said. “We are natives of Kannauj in UP and had come to Rajasthan only three months ago to make a living.” Bhiwadi SP Shantanu Kumar Singh told TOI that the men murdered the two kids on October 15, the same day when they were kidnapped. “They each had a debt of Rs 1 lakh after transacting a land deal in Bihar,” said the SP. Kushwaha runs a mobile shop and Teli works in a company. Investigations so far have revealed that the duo kidnapped the children on October 15 once their parents left for the Saturday weekly market. The group took an autorickshaw to reach Dharuhera in Gurgaon and then the Delhi Metro to south Delhi. They strangled the children with their hands and dumped their bodies in the jungle. Thinking all three were dead, they returned to Bhiwadi the following day and then placed a ransom call to Gyaan Singh’s brother Radha Kishan. The police cyber team tracked the ransom call to the complainant’s neighbours, who were detained from Delhi and grilled. They confessed to the crime and disclosed the locations of the kids’ bodies. An investigating officer said, “The men’s plan was to demand a ransom of Rs 8 lakh but settle for Rs 1 lakh or even Rs 50,000. The two accused are residents of Bihar and are suspected to be drug addicts.”
