NOIDA: Three miscreants were arrested for allegedly running an inter-state gang of liquor smugglers from Rajnigandha Chowk in the city. Around 4,500 litres of alcohol estimated to be more than Rs 20 lakh was seized by police. The Delhi-based gang brought in the liquor for sale in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming festive season and municipal elections in the state. “Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials from the Sector 20 police station held the suspects near Rajnigandha Chowk and impounded four vehiclesloaded with 386 liquor cartons. Along with the vehicle, three miscreants were nabbed,” said Ashutosh Dwivedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida).Police said the three people arrested, include Ashish, the son of liquor mafia Kamal Kishor Chaurasiya. The other two have been identified as Ravi Chauhan and Nakul Nagar, residents of Delhi.“During interrogation, the accused told us that they procured liquor from Gurgaon,” the additional DCP said.ACP Rajneesh Verma told TOI that after procuring the liquor, the accused would take different routes to the Delhi borders, from where they would redistribute the alcohol for illegal sale.
