NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old woman who sustained critical burns on February 11 at her home in outer Delhi died at AIIMS Trauma Centre on Monday. Police have arrested her live-in partner following allegations from her family members that he had set the woman on fire after an argument.The woman, who worked as a labourer at a footwear manufacturing unit, had two children – an 8-year-old son from her first marriage and a 4-year-old daughter with her live-in partner, Mohit.Police were informed by a hospital about a woman getting admitted with burn injuries. “A police team reached the hospital, but found the woman unfit for a statement. As her condition deteriorated, the woman was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital and then to AIIMS Trauma Centre. She died on Monday,” said a senior officer.The woman’s body was shifted for postmortem. “A case of murder was registered. The woman’s family suspected Mohit to be behind the death. The statements of family members were recorded, in which they stated that the victim had left her first husband and was living with Mohit for the past six years. They alleged that on February 10, Mohit and the woman had a fight after the woman caught him taking drugs at a friend’s house. Following this argument, they said, he set her on fire in rage. A case was registered and Mohit was detained. He was arrested later,” the officer said. A crime and forensic team has inspected the house.The woman’s family members alleged that the couple often had quarrels and Mohit allegedly threatened her earlier as well. Her brother alleged that Mohit had poured oil on her after a fight on the day of the incident over him doing drugs.
