MEERUT: Like the contract killer that he was, 43-year-old Anil Dujana’s marriage to Puja Singh was also nothing short of one. Puja belonged to Ghitora village of UP’s Baghpat district and her father Leelu Singh had a long-standing dispute with Raj Kumar, a resident of the same village, over a piece of agricultural land. In order to gain an upper hand, Kumar had got his daughter married to a local gangster Harendra Khadkhada. To counter his rival’s new influence power, attained through the matrimonial alliance, Leelu zeroed in on Dujana, who was a “much bigger” gangster than Khadkhada. Dujana, in those days, had just earned “fame” for attacking Sunil Rathi, one of Baghpat’s most notorious gangsters, one who had allegedly killed east UP don Munna Bajrangi in Baghpat jail in 2018.Sharing the details, an STF officer told TOI on Thursday: “Through common connections, Leelu Singh arranged the engagement of his daughter with Dujana. As Dujana was in and out of jail, Leelu Singh, with his daughter in bridal finery, reached the Gautam Budh Nagar court where Dujana was being brought for a hearing on February 16, 2019. It was there that Dujana was engaged to Puja.”The officer added: “Two years later, they got married when Dujana came out from jail on bail.” “Leelu, meanwhile, died two years ago,” Ghitora village pradhan Rajesh Kumar told TOI: “No one was happy with these weddings of the local girls with these gangsters. Ours is a peace-loving village. The rivalry between the two residents here brought a bad name to all of us.”
