GREATER NOIDA: Police have arrested six men and apprehended a juvenile for allegedly sneaking into houses in Noida and Greater Noida and committing robberies while the occupants were out of the station. Cops said the gang members worked as vendors, rickshaw-pullers and vegetable sellers in the day while keeping an eye out for houses with locks hanging outside, where they committed robberies at night. In the past three months, the gang allegedly committed over half a dozen house burglaries in various sectors of Greater Noida. Police said the people they robbed include a high court judge, a bank manager and other well-positioned people. Abhishek Verma, the deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida, said that from May onwards, the gang had been targeting houses in the “posh sectors”. “Cops were investigating multiple robbery incidents at houses in Sector Alpha 1, Ansal Golf Link, Sector Beta and others. During the investigations, they found similarities in the robberies, which helped them ascertain that one gang committed all the robberies,” said Verma. Police had been trying to track and trap these criminals. “On Monday night, we received a tip-off about their movement. We arrested them red-handed while they were planning a robbery at the Ansal Housing society in Greater Noida,” added Verma. According to police, the accused lived at a rented accommodation in the Tughalpur area in Greater Noida. The accused told police that during the day, they used to do various jobs — selling vegetables, rickshaw-pulling, street vending, among others — while looking for the houses they would target. Later at night, they snuck into these houses through window panes, exhaust vents and other narrow openings. “Recently, they committed a robbery at a house in Ansal Golf Link after sneaking inside through the exhaust vent,” Verma said. Police recovered several gold and silver ornaments from their possession, along with cash and other valuables. “We are trying to find the other gang members, who are said to be operational in other districts and states,” Anil Kumar, station house officer of Beta 2 police station, said. The juvenile has been sent to a correction home while police produced the other six before the court and sent them to judicial custody.
