NOIDA: The UP government is exploring the option of a RapidX corridor to connect Delhi with the Noida International Airport in Jewar.Officials said the move was discussed during a meeting chaired by chief secretary DS Mishra in Lucknow on Wednesday. Apart from RapidX, officials have also been told to prepare a design for a monorail project between Delhi and the airport. As of now, there is a plan to connect the Noida airport with New Delhi railway station through a metro corridor similar to Delhi’s Express Line. But mounting costs for the metro project has prompted a rethink on modes of connectivity. According to preliminary estimates, a monorail project would cost Rs 70 crore per kilometre while a RapidX line can be built for Rs 250 crore for a kilometre. A metro project, on the other hand, is likely to cost Rs 350 crore per kilometre. The officials said they were yet to prepare a route for either RapidX or monorail corridors. The NCR transport corporation is now building an 82km RapidX line between Delhi and Meerut. A 17km priority section of the corridor – between Sahihabad and Duhai in Ghaziabad – is likely to become functional in a few weeks.
