DEHRADUN: In the wake of a manhunt launched by Noida Police to nab alleged BJP leader Shrikant Tyagi, who was seen “assaulting” a woman at a housing complex, Uttarakhand Police has received an input that he may be hiding in Rishikesh. Noida Police, which has booked Tyagi for assault, reached out to Dehradun SSP Daleep Singh Kunwar on Sunday evening and told him that the accused could possibly be hiding in Rishikesh. The SSP is believed to have assured his counterparts in Noida that Uttarakhand Police will take all necessary steps to arrest the accused if he is found hiding in the Himalayan state. A police officer from Dehradun, privy to the development, told TOI, “Noida Police, which is searching for Tyagi, received a tip-off that he is hiding in Rishikesh to evade arrest. Following the tip-off by informers, Tyagi’s mobile location was also traced in Rishikesh.” Meanwhile, SSP Kunwar confirmed that he received a call from a senior Noida Police officer on Sunday evening. “He told me that his department will soon share the location of the absconding accused hiding in Dehradun district. He sought our help in his arrest if the location is confirmed,” said Kunwar. However, the SSP didn’t confirm if the accused he was referring to was Tyagi. SSP Kunwar added that he hasn’t received any other call from Noida Police about the location of the accused. A few days ago, Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair had tweeted a video clip that purportedly showed Tyagi arguing with a woman after she objected to planting of some saplings by him. Later, Tyagi was booked under section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on any woman) of the Indian Penal Code. On Monday, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath also sought a report from the state’s home department in connection with the case.
