NEW DELHI: A Tanzanian passenger, who arrived from Addis Ababa on Wednesday, was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport after it was found that he was carrying cocaine dissolved in three whiskey bottles. A test indicated around 40% cocaine, which is in excess of 1kg and worth over Rs 15 crore. Customs officials said this is a new modus operandi to smuggle in narcotics, as alcohol evaporates in the open and the dissolved substance can be recovered easily. “As soon as the passenger took to the Green Channel, Customs and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials intercepted him. On searching his baggage, three whiskey bottles were found. The liquid inside the bottles was unusually viscous unlike whiskey,” said a customs official.
