NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old Kashmiri nursing student sustained stab wounds when an autorickshaw driver allegedly attacked her with a sharp object after an argument over the fare.The incident took place in New Friends Colony around 8.30pm on Monday. However, it was reported after five hours from the hospital.According to police, Mehreen Riyaz, who is pursuing a medical degree from Holy Family College of Nursing, hired an auto from her PG accommodation in Shaheen Bagh to go to CC Market in New Friends Colony. Upon reaching, an altercation took place between her and the auto driver over the fare.”The auto driver was infuriated and attacked her with a sharp object. She received injuries on the right side of her lower abdomen. A case under IPC sections 324 and 506 was registered at NFC police station. Efforts are being made to nab the driver,” said Rajesh Deo, deputy commissioner of police (south-east).Preliminary investigation revealed the argument was over the mode of payment. While the driver wanted cash, the victim insisted on online payment.Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has requested the LG office to look into the matter.
