GURGAON: Soil testing, aerial survey of a 7.7-acre area and architectural drawings – among the first steps to build the city’s largest government-run hospital near Civil Lines will begin soon.Health department officials said on Monday that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), which will map out a preliminary plan for the 700-bed Civil Hospital. CPWD is responsible for construction of the hospital. The demolition of the old Civil Hospital building, built in Civil Lines five decades ago and one that has seen multiple incidents of roof collapse, has been completed. “We have already sent the scope of work and zonal drawings. Soil testing, aerial survey and architectural drawings will be carried out by CPWD. Talks are in process,” said Dr Virender Yadav, chief medical officer, Gurgaon.Officials of the state and Gurgaon health department will hold a meeting in Chandigarh on Tuesday to discuss the matter.According to the health department, the government has also decided to increase the hospital’s floor-area-ratio (FAR) from 1.5 to 2.25. FAR is floor space that can be used for construction of a building within a specific area. This increase, officials said, will allow for construction of more floors at the facility. The new hospital is meant to be a state-of-the-art government-run facility that aims to make cost-effective healthcare accessible to all in the city. The hospital is supposed of have a capacity of 700 beds, a CT-MRI unit, departments of radiology and oncology, specialised sections for nebulisation and immunization, microbiology, clinical pathology, and molecular and biochemistry units. Apart from a haematology unit, there will also be a laboratory for blood group serology and a transfusion centre. In 2015, after the ceiling of the maternity ward collapsed three times, authorities decided to move the ward to General Hospital in Sector 10 and renovate. A year later, the ceiling of the ICU ward also collapsed, with staff and patients making a narrow escape. The public works department then recommended that the entire building be brought down.
