NEW DELHI: On the day ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ entered the national capital, BJP launched a sharp attack mocking Rahul Gandhi’s show, saying that some of its well-known participants were known for spreading hatred and divisiveness and had also chanted anti-India slogans like “Bharat Tere Tukde Honge”.”What message of love are you (Rahul Gandhi) giving by walking with those who hate the country?” questioned the party’s senior functionary and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad who also attacked Rahul for his “pitai” remark about the Army jawans. “You say that the army is getting beaten up, You walk with ‘tukde tukde’ set while spreading hatred towards the army,” he said. The remark appeared to be a reference to Kanhaiya Kumar, who was booked along with Umar Khalid and others, for allegedly shouting “tukde tukde” slogan and for glorifying Afzal Guru, who was convicted and hanged for the attack on Parliament. Kumar has since switched over from CPI to Congress. Congress functionary Jairam Ramesh described him as the most popular member of the Congress cast after Rahul.Union minister of information and broadcasting Anurag Thakur also joined in the “tukde tukde” attack. “If anyone is walking with the Yatra, they are the members of the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang. How can those, who wish to see India disintegrate, talk of uniting India? Those who are known to sow seeds of hatred, how can they speak of spreading love,” he said, adding the country’s unity and integrity is intact under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi.Prasad also raised the issue of corruption and retaliated against Congress’s attack on the Modi government for its alleged inept handling of the border confrontation with China. “Have you forgotten 1962 and the land that India lost?” he asked, while referring to India’s military debacle in the war with China under first Prime Minister and Congress icon Jawahar Lal Nehru. He talked about alleged corruption in defence deals under Congress and said that until Narendra Modi took charge, the army was having to do without enough number of bulletproof jackets. “Today’s India has strong armed capabilities and is answering well, be it in Galwan or Tawang… Rahu’s party enjoyed ‘commissions’ in the trade of defence equipment, and it is his party which makes a mockery of our Army by giving unfortunate remarks about soldiers,” said Prasad.
