NEW DELHI: Traffic snarls were reported in the city on Sunday due to a religious procession that will continue until January 10. Traffic police had issued no prior advisory and only tweeted about the diversions at 10.20 am on Sunday. “Traffic on the following roads and stretches will be affected as a religious procession will be taken out in connection with 811th Urs-e-Mubarak of Sufi Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Ajmer Sharif on 08.1.2023, 09.1.2023, 10.01.2023,” traffic police tweeted on Sunday.Traffic AdvisoryTraffic on the following roads and stretches will be affected as a religious procession will be t… https://t.co/DSAeBexMMI— Delhi Traffic Police (@dtptraffic) 1673153747000According to the Delhi Police advisory, on Sunday, the procession started from Jama Masjid Chowk, then went to Matia Mahal, Chitli Qabar, Tiraha Bairam Khan, Delhi Gate, ITO, Pragati Maidan, Matka Shah Baba, Purana Qila, Sundar Nagar and Oberoi Hotel, before reaching Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin. Due to traffic diversions, snarls were reported from central Delhi.On Monday, the procession will travel from Lodi Road to Safdarjung Road, then to INA, Green Park, Hauz Khas, IIT Gate, Adhchini village and Dargah Mai Sahiba, with a two-hour rest at Mai Sahiba, according to the advisory. There will be a major stop at Dargah Qutubddin Rahmat Tullah.On Tuesday, the route for the procession will be via Meena Bazaar, stopping for two hours at Qila Masjid, then to Andheria Mod and MG Road Gurugram, and entering Haryana from Aya Nagar border. The procession will head for Ajmer via Jama Masjid-Nudun Chowk Rasta, Firozpur Zirka, Alwar Station, Akabarpur and Virat Nagar.Police said traffic restriction, regulation and diversion will be imposed on Monday and Tuesday on Lodhi Road, Safdarjung Road, INA Market, Aurobindo Marg, IIT, Hauz Khas, Qutub Minar Mehrauli, Anuvrat Marg, Andheria Mod crossing, MG Road and Aya Nagar border.”Commuters going to New Delhi railway station, Old Delhi railway station, Nizamuddin railway station, ISBT and IGI Airport should leave with sufficient time to accommodate possible delays on the route. Avail public transport to help decongestion of roads. Park your vehicles only at designated parking lots,” police said in their advisory.
