NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old garment businessman, his wife, and their maid were murdered in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar on Tuesday in what police suspected was a brutal act of revenge by a former employee who was sacked last month. Police have arrested two people in the case, and at least four people are absconding, including the main accused. The victims were identified as Sameer Ahuja, his wife Shalu (35) and their maid servant Sapna (33). The main accused entered Ahujas’ three-storey house through a face-recognition gate with the owner’s permission. Around four other assailants appear to have entered with him. Police said Sameer’s head was smashed, probably with a frying pan, while Shalu and Sapna’s throats were slit. Main accused, his girlfriend sacked from salon recently The brutal murders of an entrepreneur couple and their maid in west Delhi on Tuesday morning were discovered when their driver turned up at the house around 9am and found the main gate open. He entered the house to find it ransacked and called the police. “Sameer had a garment business, whereas Shalu used to run a beauty parlour. The couple lived in a three-storey house with their three-and-a-half-year-old daughter in the Ashok Nagar area of Hari Nagar, whereas the maid, Sapna, was a resident of Tihar village,” the officer said. DCP (west) Ghanshyam Bansal said the bodies of both women were found on the ground floor of the saloon while Sameer’s body was found on the bed on the first floor. “His face and head had been smashed with a heavy object,” he said. An inquiry has revealed that Sapna came to the house around 8.10am, but 10 minutes before she had entered, the main conspirator come to the house on the pretext of settling his dues. Along with him, the other accused too entered. “He entered through a face recognition gate, which can only be opened with the permission of the house owner. The other accused, around four, were carrying knives,” the officer said. Police said they suspect that they first killed Sameer and then his wife. The maid may have seen the accused committing the crime, so they killed her too. She also knew the main accused. The assailants took away an iPhone 13 of Shalu, a laptop, cash, and other articles. A few cups were also found at the spot and three people appear to have had tea. A florist saw them running out of the house, and their movements were captured on one of the CCTVs in the area, which helped cops identify the accused. “They had come on two bikes, and at 9pm were seen hurriedly leaving the house,” the officer said. Raids were conducted and two of the accused, Sachin (19) and Sujeet (21), both residents of Dwarka, were nabbed. “We came to know that 10 days before the crime, the main accused and his girlfriend were sacked by their employer from the salon due to their unprofessional attitude. The conspirator was the first to be sacked, and after a few days, his girlfriend was removed. He had a grudge about being insulted in front of his girlfriend, so he wanted to take revenge,” he said. He discussed his plan with Sujit and Sachin, who roped in the other three accused. “We suspect that the main accused had lured them with the prospect of looting the house,” the officer said. Sources said while killing Sameer, the main accused kept saying “tumne mere saath aacha nahi kiya” and smashed his head over half a dozen times. The role of his girlfriend is also under the scanner.
