NEW DELHI: Delhi recorded light to moderate intensity rain on Friday with some areas seeing high intensity rain towards the afternoon. According to the weather department, between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm, the city’s base station, Safdarjung, recorded 8.8 mm rainfall while Mayur Vihar recorded 22 mm, Lodhi Road 18mm and Sports Complex 1.5mm. However, some areas of the city saw a rise in the day temperature. Najafgarh was the warmest at 40 degrees Celsius followed by Pitampura at 38 degrees Celsius. At Safdarjung, the mercury went up to 37.1 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season’s average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season’s average. The humidity oscillated between 97% and 64%. According to weather analysts, the maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday may hover around 38 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. There is a possibility of light rain too. “Isolated parts of the city and NCR recorded high intensity rainfall towards the afternoon, which was caused by localised thunderclouds formed due to accumulation of moisture and heat. These are micro-climate patterns that cannot be predicted in advance,” said Mahesh Palawat, vice-chairman, Skymet. Meanwhile, the air quality of the city remained “moderate”. On Friday, the Air Quality Index, on a scale of 0 to 500, was recorded at 110 as against 121 a day earlier. For the next three days, it is likely to be within “moderate” or “upper end of satisfactory” due to expected light/trace rain spells.
