NEW DELHI: The facade of the stations of India’s first Regional Rail, RAPIDX, will be in hues of blue and beige, inspired by the colours of the peacock’s feathers. The exterior roof of the RAPIDX stations are designed to be curved on both sides to depict speed, one of the main characteristics of RAPIDX trains.Officials of National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which is executing the project, said the exterior facade of all 25 stations on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor will be inspired by the colours of peacock feathers. Another feature of this design is that the foot overbridges will also be painted in the same colours. They will also be covered at the top to protect commuters from the sun and rain. “Glass lifts have been installed inside the station to make the station seem airy, spacious, open and lit. Some of these lifts are wider to accommodate stretchers. There is seating on the platform. Platform screen doors (PSDs) have been installed at every station for safety. These PSDs will be linked to the signalling system of the train. The train will run only after both the train doors and the PSDs are closed,” an NCRTC official said.Drinking water and washroom facilities have been provided in the paid area of the concourse level at every station. In the bigger stations, which will provide connectivity under multi-modal integration, washroom facilities have also been provided at the street level. “Considering the convenience of commuters travelling with young children, a provision for a room equipped with a diaper-changing station has been made at the concourse level of every station,” an official said.Arrangements have been made at stations for hassle-free movement of visually challenged persons. “Dedicated tactile paths have been created to avoid confusion and show them the shortest possible route to key areas,” the official added.
