NOIDA: Dog catchers sent by the Noida Authority were caught on camera dragging a stray dog, who is allegedly pregnant, with a rope. The incident took place at Lotus Boulevard society in Sector 100. The video was uploaded on social media by a resident of the society Thursday morning. #noida where is dear @TheDogMother_ After her vedios all innocent dogs r paying a hefty price. If you r a dog love… https://t.co/aEoNDkFf3d— Vibha Chugh (@Vibhachugh1) 1666240066000In the video, the resident is seen stopping the authority staff from dragging the dog as blood was coming out of her mouth. However, the catchers didn’t stop and took the dog into their van. While protocol requires the dog catchers to only use a butterfly net, the catchers were using a hook to trap the dog. Vibha Chugh, a resident of Lotus Boulevard Espacia, who uploaded the video on Twitter, said, “The video was sent to me by the feeder of Lotus Boulevard society. She recorded the incident and also tried to stop the three catchers from thrashing the dog. The dog is pregnant and was bleeding from her mouth when they were thrashing her. Even though the dog was badly hurt the catcher took them in their van”. The van which came to catch the dog belongs to Animal Shelter, Sector 94, Noida which comes under Noida Authority. Chugh added that till now the dogs which had been picked up from the society are all docile dogs while the aggressive dogs are still in the society. Kaveri Rana Bhardwaj, an animal activist who runs a shelter home in Greater Noida, said, “This is an equally brutal act. It’s shameless to see how these people are taking this pregnant dog”. Sachin Bangera, vice president of celebrity and public relations, at PETA India, said, “The recent incident from Noida is very deeply tragic and reminds us of the vital importance of the duty of municipalities under the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001 to run an effective dog sterilization program. Unusual and upsetting incidents like these will encourage people to indulge in such activities as beating, tying up dogs, and dragging them about cruelly, as if to punish all dogs for one dog’s involvement in this situation”. Indu Prakash, the officer on special duty, Noida Authority, said, “I will go to the society tomorrow and investigate this matter. Whatever happened today will not be tolerated”. Anuradha Dogra, a volunteer at Animal Shelter, said, “It was our shelter catcher. He was the driver who did this to the pregnant dog. He has been sacked and also been fined. The man has recently joined our shelter home. The dog is fine and with us now. The dog is just some days pregnant and we have done her health checkup”.
