NOIDA: The body of a 16-year-old boy who was called to a police outpost for questioning in connection with a robbery case was found hanging at his home in Imaliya village, allegedly a day after he returned. His family members alleged that he was illegally detained for three nights at the police outpost in Bilaspur, following which he took the extreme step. The police denied the allegations, saying he had been called for questioning but had been sent back home the same day. On Saturday, the Bilaspur outpost in-charge and a constable were, however, suspended after the family submitted a complaint against them. The autopsy report mentioned that the boy died due to hanging, but there were no other injury marks on the body. Pushpendra Nagar, a relative, told TOI that a group of policemen had picked the minor up for questioning on February 20 and released him on February 23. “He is a juvenile, but was illegally kept in police custody. On Thursday evening, the boy told us that the cops had beaten him up mercilessly. He was extremely depressed and had locked himself in a room. On Friday evening, he was found hanging from the ceiling fan,” Pushpendra said.DCP (Greater Noida) Saad Miya Khan said a case of robbery was registered at Dankaur police station on February 6. The Bilaspur police outpost reports to the Dankaur police station.”During investigation, the name of Cheeku Nagar, the boy’s elder brother, came to the fore. As Cheeku was absconding, cops questioned his family members for his whereabouts. On Thursday, our team picked up the teenager for questioning and dropped him home after three hours,” Khan said.On Friday evening, the Ecotech-1 police received information about the death of the 16-year-old boy. “A team reached the spot and sent his body for an autopsy. It was later handed back to the family. On Saturday, his family members submitted a complaint that he was kept in police custody illegally. While the autopsy report shows the cause of death as hanging, it doesn’t mention any other injury marks on the body,” said Khan.”We have initiated an inquiry and have suspended two police personnel,” the DCP stated. Police sources, meanwhile, claimed that the boy had an argument at home before he took the extreme step.
