NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will place a proposal for the construction of about a 9.5 km-long cycle track from New Moti Bagh, Panchsheel Marg to Sunehri Bagh Road roundabout in the council meeting soon, officials have said. The project will cost Rs 11.3 crore and the council is expecting to get a majority of the fund under the ‘smart city mission’, they said, adding its completion will take a year. With a width of around 2.5 to 4 metres, the track will cover roads and areas, including New Moti Bagh, Satya Marg, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kautilya Marg, Teen Murti Marg, Kushak Marg, Rajaji Marg, Kamraj Marg, Sunehri Bagh, Maulana Azad Road, Rajpath, Rafi Marg, Dr Rajendra Prasad Marg, Sansad Marg and Pandit Pant Marg.Earlier, NDMC had roped in the School of Planning and Architect (SPA) earlier to design a safe and seamless cycle network.”To traverse the whole corridor, by taking the shortest possible route, it will take around 35-45 minutes of travel time depending on the traffic. For making this report, the consultant – SPA – held meetings between NDMC officials along with the traffic inspectors, so the best route can be finalised,” said NDMC vice chairman Satish Upadhyay.”The SPA investigated the road sections starting from New Moti Bagh and going up to the north and south blocks of the secretariat. It has been kept in mind that the route includes spaces that have the maximum potential for the use of cycles. Overall, the stretch is 8.6 km, along the road that connects offices, recreational areas, embassies, bus stands, metro stations, etc. However, the proposed design of the cycle track will be 9.55 km as per the approved alignment,” he added.
