GURUGRAM: Police have arrested a 26-year-old taxi driver who allegedly strangled his father to death, bludgeoned his body with a spanner and ran it over with his car to make the murder look like an accident. Cops said Anuj killed his father, Rakesh Kumar (52), after the two of them had an argument over ancestral property. On September 18, Rakesh Kumar’s body was found near the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Manesar. A post-mortem report concluded that he had been attacked, prompting police to register a case of murder. Anuj allegedly killed his father the night before and was on the run since then. “After the body was found, an FIR was registered at the IMT-Manesar police station and a hunt was launched for the accused. Anuj was arrested on Thursday night from Nawad village in Manesar,” assistant commissioner of police (crime) Preet Pal Singh Sangwan said on Friday. The ACP said that Anuj confessed to his crime during the interrogation. The 26-year-old told the cops that his grandfather had given a portion of ancestral land in UP to Rakesh, a farmer, and an aunt. “This did not go down well with Anuj, who had an argument about this with Rakesh. On the intervening night of September 17 and 18, Anuj killed his father by strangling him. Then he tried to crush Rakesh’s face with a spanner and fled from the spot. To divert police investigation, he also drove a car over his father’s body, so the case could look like a road accident,” Sangwan said. Anuj has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. Police said he will be produced before a court and they will seek his remand to recover the murder weapon and the car used for the crime.
