LUCKNOW: A team of ophthalmologists from Indian army medical corps led by Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra of Lucknow, conducted successful cataract surgery of President of India Droupadi Murmu’s left eye. The operation was done on Sunday morning at Army hospital research and referral Delhi Cantt. Later, the team is expected to operate on the right eye of Murmu. Last year between August and September during Covid pandemic, Brigadier Mishra and his team had operated successful cataract operations of former commander-in-chief Ram Nath Kovind and first lady Savita Kovind. Brigadier Sanjay Kumar MishraLater, Kovind issued a certificate of appreciation for Brigadier and his team. Originally hailing from Mau district but settled in Lucknow, Mishra is said to be the highest decorated doctor in the history of Indian armed forces medical services. He has been conferred with the Bar to Sena medal by the President in 2021 and it was his fourth medal. Earlier he was awarded Sena Medal and Bar to Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM). He is currently head of the eye department of Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi. Mishra is an alumnus of AFMC Pune and completed his super speciality in Vitreo Retinal surgery from AIIMS New Delhi. He completed his schooling from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh and during his tenure at Command Hospital Lucknow, he established the retinal centre in 2018, catering to patients from various states.
