GHAZIABAD: A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly murdering his 44 year-old girlfriend after a fight in a hotel. According to police, the man — identified as Gautam Singh, a resident of Bhojpur— used to work as a labourer in a furniture manufacturing shop in the city. DCP Rural Iraj Raja told TOI that on Monday afternoon, police got a call from the hotel about the crime.A police team reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. “The deceased was identified as Rachna, wife of Rajkumar, a resident of Baghpat. We informed her husband and started an investigation. During investigation, police learnt that around 9 pm on Sunday, the woman had come to the hotel along with Gautam. He left the hotel at 10.30am on Monday on the pretext of going to an ATM but never returned. When housekeeping staff went to the room around 1pm, they spotted the body and informed us. Gautam was arrested around 5.30 pm from Ganga canal road in Muradnagar,” he said. Satish Kumar, SHO of Muradnagar police station said that during interrogation, Gautam confessed to having strangled her in a fit of rage as she tried to flee from the hotel room and go back home. “Gautam killed Rachna on Sunday night and spent the entire night in the same room,” the SHO said. Gautam was booked under the sections 302 (murder) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC. Rachna was working as a clerk in a private company, while her husband was a labourer. Investigations revealed that she had left her house on December 23 on the pretext of going to office. “During interrogation, Gautam said that he and Rachna knew each other for the past four months. After talking on phone and through messages they decided to meet in Meerut on December 23. They spent two nights in a hotel and on Sunday evening, they reached Ghaziabad,” the SHO said. “As she didn’t return home till 8 pm on December 23, I got worried and called her up. She said that she was getting late as there was a meeting in the office. But when she didn’t return till 11 pm and her number was switched off, i went to her office from where i got to know that she hadn’t gone to office that day,” Rajkumar said.“Around 5 am, she called me up and said that she is coming home in sometime but didn’t reveal her location. Around 10pm on December 25, she called me and asked for help saying that she was in a hotel in Ghaziabad and Gautam was not letting her return home. I tried to search for her but by Monday afternoon, police informed me that they found her body,” he said.
