NEW DELHI: BJP on Monday launched an indefinite dharna near chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence at Civil Lines demanding that the CM opens the gates of his house to the public so that they can see for themselves his “lavish living”.BJP has said Rs 45 crore had been spent to renovate the CM’s house at 6, Flagstaff Road during the pandemic. Chandni Chowk MP Harsh Vardhan, who led the protest, said, “Today not only the people of Delhi but also Anna Hazare is ashamed to see the money spent on the construction of his Raj Mahal.” He added, “When Kejriwal formed the government, he took an oath of simplicity — he would live in a small bungalow, end the VIP culture. But today he lives in a grand Raj Mahal, moves in a convoy of 20 vehicles and has become a VIP.” Today people want to see his house, “but Kejriwal who talks about transparency and RTI is not ready to show his palace to anyone”, he alleged.AAP leader Raghav Chadha hit back, saying BJP must answer for its extravagant spending on the luxuries of its leaders. “The Central Vista project alone cost Rs 23,000 crore while Rs 8,400 crore was spent on a personal jet for PM Narendra Modi and Rs 12 crore on his personal car,” he alleged.“The Prime Minister’s new house costs Rs 500 crore to build and Rs 90 crore was spent renovating his existing house. The BJP-ruled Karnataka government even spent Rs 9.5 crore recently on PM Modi’s inauguration of the IIT Dharwad campus. The context of this debate is clear: BJP must be held accountable for it wasteful spending,” he said.Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said the party would continue the protest till the gates of the CM’s house were opened for the public, even if for a fee. BJP leader Vijay Goel said the key issue “is so much corruption done by this government. When he came from Ghaziabad, he said he was a saint. I was also impressed, thought we will get relief from the Congress government’s corruption… But corruption allegations are coming one after another”.
