NEW DELHI: BJP on Sunday claimed that deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s arrest was “just the beginning” as the next to meet the same fate would be CM Arvind Kejriwal.Earlier in the day, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said converting corruption into event management wouldn’t help AAP. “AAP did not give any answers about the liquor policy scam. One thing is clear, they are busy hiding the truth,” he said.Patra called Sisodia “liquor minister” and accused him of several irregularities, including a hike in commission for wholesalers to make money for his party through the back door. He asked if the excise policy was good, then why did Delhi government retract it.He also reacted angrily to AAP supporters shouting slogans ‘Mar ja Modi’, dubbing it “unfortunate”. The BJP functionary said Sisodia must be the only education minister in the world who was involved in a liquor scam. “He played with the lives of children,” Patra said.Former Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari said thousands of women in the capital were crying and urging them to close the new liquor outlets, but Kejriwal and Sisodia did not pay heed to them. “We are hopeful that the law will take its course. Sisodia has paid for his misdeeds. However, the mastermind (Kejriwal) is still at large,” Tiwari said.MP Ramesh Bidhuri asked why Sisodia was visiting Rajghat when the party had removed Mahatma Gandhi’s photos from government offices in Punjab. “After committing theft, they are paying their respects to Mahatma Gandhi,” he said. MP Parvesh Sahib Singh accused AAP of “hiding behind education”. He asked: “When Delhi was in the grip of a second wave of Covid, why was Delhi government busy formulating the liquor policy? Why was the liquor policy withdrawn after the CBI case? Why did Sisodia and colleagues change several mobiles and phone numbers in one month?” “Illegal property worth crores was seized by ED from people close to Sisodia and his aide and co-accused, Dinesh Arora, himself turned into a witness,” he said.Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva said, “Today people of Delhi are feeling ashamed of giving power to a party that is now engaged in corruption and scams. Delhi’s children and their parents are ashamed of the education minister as he is in jail for a liquor scam,” he said.On AAP saying that BJP was afraid of Kejriwal’s growing popularity, Delhi BJP Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said Manish Sisodia was the second minister of Kejriwal to be arrested after Satyendar Jain. “If Sisodia too fails to get bail, then AAP will have a lot to answer the people for. Smaller states, such as Uttarakhand, Goa and Himachal Pradesh have totally rejected AAP. Punjab or Gujarat, where they have taken Congress’ space, too, will reject AAP,” he said.
