NEW DELHI: While probing multiple incidents of snatchings and firings that occurred within a week in northeast Delhi, the crime branch apprehended a 17-year-old alleged serial offender who was also in the end stage of executing a murder. The teenager was active on Instagram and used to share his crime journey there.The suspect, police said, was found involved in a case of murder in 2021 in which he was released two months later. He then committed another murder. He came out of the observation home in December 2022 and got involved in a series of street crimes.Cops are likely to write to the juvenile justice board to treat him as a major.DCP (crime) Amit Goel’s team had started tracking the accused after reports of a trigger-happy suspect being active in the area emerged. Head constable Joginder received information that the suspect was opening fire to establish his dominance in the area and impress Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.”Even before committing the crimes, this gang of juveniles used to come live on Instagram and brag about their plans to commit crimes,” special commissioner (crime) Ravindra Yadav said.Based on inputs, the team laid a trap in Shiv Vihar area of northeast Delhi and confronted the accused. Two of the teenagers managed to escape, but cops caught hold of the alleged kingpin after a chase.On February 13, the accused had fired upon a man in Welcome area and uploaded the video on Instagram. He also snatched a scooty at gunpoint in the same area. The next day, the gang members fired upon another scooty rider in a snatching bid in Jafrabad. They also fired at police personnel on February 15 when the cops tried to catch them.The accused took to crime after coming in contact with a criminal named Arjun Pandit. They were allegedly involved in a man’s murder on November 15, 2021 in Karawal Nagar.
