The factory from where the raw material of the drug was seized.YAMUNANAGAR: A Delhi Zonal Unit (DZU) of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 661.75kg ephedrine drug material in liquid form having market value of Rs 132.35 crore and raw material of the same drug valued at Rs 53 lakh from a factory in Bapoli villagein Yamunanagar district on Monday. The factory has been seized along with the raw material as it has all facilities to manufacture ephedrine. During the raid, the DRI team arrested two men identified as Wafadar Gajanfar Hussain (53) and Mohammad Azam (51), both from Mumbai, from a hotel in Ladwa town of Kurukshetra district. The arrested accused were produced before the Yamunanagar district court through a central government counsel, which sent them on 14-day judicial custody. In its application to the court, the DRI said arrested accused in connivance with Raju alias Santosh Singh, and four partners of the factory – Mohit Sahwney, Vijay Sharma, Shayam Lal Goyal, and Rajan Sondhi – were involved with Wafadar to arrange logistics to manufacture ephedrine drug. The DRI said to the court that it learnt that the unit had been defunct, which was taken on lease by suspects for manufacturing the drug. “The manufacture (of Ephedrine) was started in the afternoon on July 27, 2022, and expecting the process to be completed in six days in two batches. About 7 MTs (metric tonnes) of various kinds of raw material had been procured using fake invoices to manufacture 500-600kg of Ephedrine/Pseudoephedrine”, DRI told the court. DRI recorded that it recovered 10 open drums containing the ephedrine (661.75kg) in liquid form, and its samples were collected and tested on the spot with the help of Precursor Chemical Detection Kits. The material indicated the presence of ephedrine. The DRI said Azam and his friend Wafadar are both chemical dealers. Azam supplied bulk of raw materials needed for the manufacture of drugs from Mumbai, along with Wafadar. The movement of raw material was done on the basis of fake invoices. The DRI claimed that Wafadar is mediator between Azam, Raju and the partners of the factory, who took 2 Glass Line Reactors on lease at the factory. It said the accused Raju knows the process of drug manufacturing, who brought his men with him to work at the factory and he was asked to pay Rs 10 lakh to partners of the factory. During the raid, the accused Azam and Wajadar joined the team for searches at the factory. FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIAFacebookTwitterInstagramKOO APPYOUTUBE
