NEW DELHI: A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing cash and jewellery from a person in Lahori Gate area. The man was arrested after his fingerprints matched with that of the suspects.The arrested man has been identified as Mohammed Jafar, a resident of Lahori Gate, who is previously involved in at least 18 criminal cases.According to police, on October 6, one Shubham Gupta reported theft of gold and silver jewellery items and cash.Deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said a case was registered and investigation taken up. “A forensics and crime team, which was called at the spot for a detailed inspection, lifted evidence and fingerprints of the suspects from the locker from which the valuables were stolen. The fingerprints of family members and other relatives and suspects were then sent to the finger print bureau for matching,” the DCP said.On November 4, the report was received and the chance print matched with that of one suspect Mohammed Jafar. “Different teams of cops then raided his possible hideouts and finally, he was arrested on December 29. One pistol and two live rounds were recovered from him,” the officer said.
