Image used for representative purpose onlyNEW DELHI: Delhi police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly bludgeoning his landlord to death at his house in northwest Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on August 9. Police said the man, before fleeing, took a selfie and recorded a video with the body. The reason behind murder was to avenge insult by the landlord, senior police officers said. The arrested man has been identified as Pankaj Kumar Sahni, a resident of Samastipur district in Bihar. On August 10, police received information regarding the murder at 6.41 am. The man was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead. A police team that reached the spot met the caller, Jagdish (32), who told the cops that the deceased man was his father. “Jagdish told police that his father recently rented the second floor of their house to one Pankaj Sahni. On August 9, Sahni returned home in a drunken state and got into a scuffle with Suresh. Sahni later apologised to Suresh and Jagdish. However, the next day, Sahni called Jagdish and said that he had left their house late night on August 9 because Suresh had used indecent words against him which he couldn’t tolerate,” said a senior police officer. When Jagdish rushed upstairs to check on his father, he found him lying unconscious with head injury. Deputy commissioner of police (outer) Sameer Sharma said a case of murder was registered and during the investigation, the location of Sahni was found in Anand Parbat, but he kept on changing it. “He took a train from New Delhi Railway Station and reached Rohtak, Haryana. Later, he was traced in the Mangolpuri industrial area and arrested,” the DCP said. “Sahni said on August 9, Suresh used abusive words against him and asked him to leave the house.
