NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) sports facility at Sector 17, Dwarka is not going to start anytime soon. Due to delay in getting permissions from local bodies and other technical issues, the authority has shifted the deadline of completing the sports complex from December 2022 to June 2023. Once completed, it will be the 15th such facility managed by the authority in Delhi.“The building structure at the complex has been completed. But minor work such as making turf cricket pitch, levelling at badminton hall and arrival/installation of equipment for various facilities are still pending. We are also waiting for an NoC from the fire department, water connection in the complex. Completing all tasks will take a few months and hence, we have extended the deadline to June 2023,” said a DDA official.Spread over an area of 23.1 acres, the sports complex will have several outdoor facilities, including cricket, hockey and football grounds; tennis and volleyball courts; skating rink; and jogging track. The indoor facilities will include six badminton courts, four squash courts, table tennis area, shooting range and boxing ring. The authority is also working on its first four centres for excellence in Dwarka (sectors 8, 19 and 23) and Rohini (Sector 33). At Rohini Sector 33, the building construction work has started, but for creating sports facilities, the tendering process is yet to begin. At these ‘centres of excellence’, athletes will get intensive and advanced training to prepare for Commonwealth, Asian and Olympic Games,” the official added.
