The crime reportedly took place between midnight and the early hours of Monday in the bushes along the tracks near Tilak Bridge. The accused men have been arrested and booked for gang rape (IPC Section 376D) and under Pocso Act. They have been identified as Hardeep Nagar (21) from Faridabad and Rahul (20) from Agra. The survivor was reportedly abandoned by a 25-year-old man, with whom she was travelling, following an argument. On August 8, cops on patrol spotted three men engaged in an altercation on the Ajmeri Gate side of New Delhi Railway Station and brought them to the police station. The men were identified as Nagar, Rahul and Deepak. A minor girl known to Deepak was also with them. During questioning, it was revealed that Deepak had abandoned the girl at the railway station. The survivor told police that in July she had gone to Chandigarh with her family where she met Deepak, a native of Gonda in UP. “A few days later, when the family travelled to Gujarat, Deepak also went along with them. On August 4, Deepak and the girl left Gujarat together to visit his village. They boarded a train on August 5 and reached Lucknow the next day. From there, they hired a taxi and reached Deepak’s village. They returned the same night and boarded a train to New Delhi from where they were supposed to catch a train back to Gujarat,” said a senior police officer. Deepak and the girl reached New Delhi Railway Station around 2pm on Sunday. They were due to board Jamnagar Express at 9.40pm, but they missed the train. An argument ensued between the two and Deepak left her at the station. DCP (Railways) Harendra Kumar Singh said after some time the girl started searching for Deepak within the station premises. While she was on the foot overbridge, she met two hawkers, Nagar and Rahul. “On the girl’s request, they called her brother, who requested them to help his sister catch a train to Gujarat. The two men, however, misguided her that the train would be available at another station. They took her to the bushes along the tracks near Tilak Bridge and raped her. They brought her back to Ajmeri Gate side of the station on Monday morning,” said the DCP. Meanwhile, Deepak also reached there searching for the girl. “An argument started with Nagar and Rahul scolding Hardeep for abandoning her. This was when the cops on patrol spotted them. After the girl alleged sexual assault, the complainant and both the accused were medically examined. A forensics team has inspected the place of crime and further investigation is under way,” said Singh.
