(file photo)NEW DELHI: Little rain is expected in the remaining days of August and the city is likely to witness a rain deficit this month. Safdarjung, the city’s base station, has logged just 39.8mm rainfall so far and is unlikely to cross 100mm as against the normal 247.7mm. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain is unlikely from Friday to Sunday, but cloudy skies are expected. The Met department said strong surface winds were likely on Friday and Saturday, and light rain or thundershowers on Monday and Tuesday. However, rain is unlikely on Wednesday. A Met official said, “The monsoon trough has moved far from Delhi, and hence, no major rain activity is expected for the next five days. However, due to convective clouds, light rain may lash the city during this period.” Last August, Safdarjung logged 214.5mm rain and saw a deficit of 13%. IMD’s data shows that Safdarjung managed to surpass the normal mark only twice in the past 10 years as it recorded excess rainfall of 321.4 and 378.8mm in 2013 and 2012, respectively. The city has been recording a rain deficit in August continuously since 2014, but the rainfall has been over 100mm. The normal mark for August is the highest in the city in the entire year. Delhi’s air quality, meanwhile, continued to remain “satisfactory”, with the overall air quality index (AQI) at 96. FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIAFacebookTwitterInstagramKOO APPYOUTUBE
