NEW DELHI: A minor was allegedly stabbed to death on Friday night after he objected to two others teasing his sister and making rude comments about her. The incident took place in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar area when 17-year-old Manoj was on his way home after his computer classes. Police said the victim was stabbed at least six times by the two juveniles. CCTV footage of the incident shows the two teenagers stabbing the boy even as people around look on without intervening. The victim can be seen calling, the knife still stuck in his back. The 17-year old boy was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The teenager was pursuing a technical course from Pusa Institute while simultaneously pursuing his BCom degree through distance learning. He was also taking computer classes to equip himself for digital marketing. According to police, the incident took place in Patel Nagar around 9:20pm on Friday. Shweta Chauhan, DCP (Central), said, “After the scrutiny of footage from over 100 CCTV cameras, the assailants were identified. Local intelligence yielded concrete information that the assailants might be in hiding in Patel Nagar, Moti Nagar, Anand Parbat, Nangloi or Gurgaon. While one knife was recovered from the body of the deceased, the second one used in the commission of the murder was also recovered at the instance of the apprehended juveniles.” Chauhan said that when questioned, the juveniles admitted they used to tease the sister of the deceased and a few days ago, Manoj had slapped one of them and warned them to stay away from his sister. The victim’s father accepted that his son had slapped one of the two teenagers who habitually ogled at and teased his minor daughter. Investigating officials said, however, that no complaint had ever been filed against the two boys by the girl’s family. Speaking to TOI, the victim’s father said, “My son was killed as he fought back for his sister. He died barely 10 steps from his house. The accused had told my son that they would take revenge for the slap.” He said that the juveniles had made bold remarks about his daughter and her friend. While she too had given them a suitable reply, Manoj had confronted them and asked them to stay away from her. “After my son’s death, I am worried for my safety,” said the father, while friends and relatives staged a protest at the Patel Nagar police station demanding justice. The family hails from Almora in Uttarakhand. The father works as a photostat machine mechanic, while the mother works at a mobile charger manufacturing unit in the area. The family had been living in Baljeet Nagar for over a decade.
