MEERUT: A 24-year-old Delhi Police constable, Tushar Sharma, who was allegedly involved in a double-murder case in which two young men were beheaded over a fortnight ago, was arrested by UP police from Bulandshahr on Sunday. The accused carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head. On the night of October 1, cousins Bhupendra Kumar (20) and Jagdish Singh (18) disappeared from their village in Bulandshahr. The next morning, Naresh a local farmer, lodged a complaint with police claiming that his son Bhupendra and nephew Jagdish had gone missing from their village Kailavan. Police initially registered a case under IPC section 364 (kidnapping) against unidentified persons. Naresh also informed the cops about a phone call from his abducted son’s mobile number with the caller demanding a ransom of Rs 5 crore for the “lives” of his son and nephew. Investigations subsequently pointed to the role of 19-year-old college student Durgesh Sharma and three others, including Tushar. On October 4, police in Bulandshahr arrested Durgesh, Mukul Kumar (Durgesh’s friend) and Lata Sharma (Durgesh and Tushar’s mother, who is in her mid-40s). Tushar had then managed to escape. SSP (Bulandshahr) Shlok Kumar said on Monday: “Tushar has been arrested now. During interrogation, Durgesh disclosed that Bhupendra had an illicit relationship with his mother, Lata Sharma. And he had seen both of them in a compromising position. He shared this with his elder brother Tushar. With the help of their friend, they then hatched a plot to kill Bhupendra.” The SSP added: “Durgesh, Mukul and Tushar called Bhupendra to his house. Jagdish joined his cousin. The accused then thrashed them till the two became unconscious. Thereafter, they took the two in a car to a deserted stretch in Rajpura of Sambhal district, where they severed their heads, packed them in a bag and threw them into the Ganga. They later dumped both the headless bodies in separate locations.” Police later found out that the “ransom call was only a ploy to present the case as that of kidnapping and the real reason for the double murder was something else”.
