NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court has condemned the “inappropriate” dance performances held during the “Holi Milan” function organised by New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA) on March 6. The function was organised in the Patiala House Court complex wherein some dancers were allegedly seen performing “item numbers”.The high court on Friday objected to the function and stated that it was not in line with the high moral and ethical standards of the legal profession. It has the effect of tarnishing the image of the judicial institution, the HC added.Earlier, several lawyers wrote to New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA) and objected to the function. They claimed that it was “inappropriate, sexist and totally unbecoming of a bar association.”The high court asked the principal district and sessions judge, New Delhi district, Patiala House to issue a showcause notice to the bar association within three days and to take appropriate action and send a report to it after taking into account the response of NDBA.The judge has been directed not to allow the court premises to be used by the present executive committee of New Delhi Bar Association for any event till further orders. The high court ordered that whenever any district court bar association makes a request seeking permission to use the court premises for any event, the principal district and sessions judge concerned shall take steps to ensure that nothing is done “which lowers the dignity or tarnishes the image of judicial institution/legal profession”.
