NEW DELHI: Four men threw chilli powder at two courier company employees and allegedly robbed their courier packages containing jewellery items worth around Rs 2 crores in Central Delhi’s Paharganj area in the wee hours on Wednesday. A case under sections of robbery and criminal intimidation has been registered. Police said they have leads and the accused would be nabbed soon. According to the police, a call was received at 4:49am in which it was stated that two persons were robbed by throwing chilli powder in their eyes. A team of police officials reached the location and it came to fore that two men were having two bags and a box containing jewellery which was to be transported to Chandigarh and Ludhiana. They were intercepted by four people and robbed. Shweta Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central said “One of the accused was in police uniform. The accused men intercepted them on the pretext of checking and two came from behind and threw chilli powder in their eyes. They then robbed the bags and the box. The expected value of the jewellery was about two crores and rest of the value is being verified as the consignment was received from different places like Bombay, Ahmedabad, Surat etc. We have strong clues and hopefully the case will be cracked soon”.
