NEW DELHI: AAP functionaries on Saturday accused BJP of “using conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar” for gains in elections in Gujarat and Delhi. Addressing a press conference, AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that BJP was using the conman to defame his party during the election season, adding that Chandrasekhar seemed to have become their star campaigner. Earlier, without naming Chandrasekar, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia tweeted: “Fearing defeat in Gujarat and MCD elections, BJP has done a deal with a Tihar inmate that he will make baseless allegations against (Arvind) Kejriwal and BJP will help him with his case in return. I have heard that, next week, JP Nadda will make him join the party.” Bharadwaj alleged that “Chandrasekhar took Rs 215 crore from the owners of a corporate company in the name of home minister Amit Shah”. He added: “Ever since the dates for the assembly election in Gujarat have been announced, BJP seems to be very nervous. This can be gauged from the speeches of its spokespersons and also of their senior functionaries.” At a separate press conference, MLA Atishi, too, attacked BJP for “supporting” the conman. She claimed: “Following the failures of ED, CBI, I-T department, LG and Delhi Police, BJP has now turned to the country’s biggest conman for help against AAP. He was the same man who said he had to collect Rs 200 crore for a Union minister. Can we believe such a dubious man?” Atishi claimed that BJP was aware that it would fare poorly both in Gujarat election and Delhi MCD polls and that was why their functionaries were making baseless allegations against AAP. “BJP initially sought the assistance of CBI to charge AAP. Then, it used ED to accuse us and, after that, roped in LG and Delhi Police. After failing in all these attempts, it has turned to the country’s biggest conman, Sukesh Chandrasekhar, for assistance,” she claimed.
