NEW DELHI: Apart from 101 new cases of dengue reported last week, 29 new cases of malaria were also recorded during this period, says a report issued by Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday. The malaria cases are highest so far this year in a week, said officials. The total number of cases has reached 92 compared with 86 cases in 2021 till this point of time. The total dengue cases reached 396 till September 17 compared with 211 in 2021, 172 in 2020 and 217 in 2019. Out of the total number of malaria cases (92) in 2022, 31 were untraceable. Last week, of the 29 malaria cases, 10 were untraceable, as per the report. Of the total 396 dengue cases reported in 2022 (till September 17), at least 194 cases were untraceable. Last week also, 38 cases were untraceable out of 101 cases. The civic body has already written to the government hospitals concerned for keeping proper records of patients. “Despite the Delhi high court’s direction to all stakeholders to take corrective action, we continue to find breeding at 80% places, including government offices and campuses,” an official said. The civic body claimed to have increased anti-larval measures, deploying various methods to contain breeding of mosquitoes. From January 1 to September 17, MCD sprayed insecticides at over 9.4 lakh houses and paid visits to 2.4 crore houses to verify status on the ground. It has issued 86,895 legal notices, launched prosecution against 30,954 sites and issued 11,836 challans amounting to Rs 26.3 lakh. Last week, the number of chikungunya cases reported was three, taking the total number to 17 in comparison to 44 last year and 54 in 2020.
